It used to be that if you visited the parks on August 31st – September 1st you would see a magical transformation take place overnight. Once the park closed on the last day of August, cast members would come out en force and get things ready for Fall at Walt Disney World. Mickey shaped pumpkins would replace flowers on main street and orange, red and yellow would be the primary colors in every corner of the parks. But over the last few years, the Magic Kingdom has begun to put on its fall foliage a bit earlier than it had before. So here’s what’s coming in August as Walt Disney World gears up for Fall.

Halloween Decorations Fall at Walt Disney World

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.

Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is a super popular, special ticketed event that is held on select nights from August to November 1st. Here guests can dress up as favorite characters, go trick or treating and meet characters dressed for the occasion. There are villainous shows, nearly live performances on the grounds of the Haunted Mansion and special meet and greets with your favorite Disney baddies.

To attend the party you need to purchase a separate ticket for the party. With that ticket you can enter Magic Kingdom gates as early as 4:00 PM. The event itself runs from 7:00 PM to Midnight. It’s a limited attendance event, so you’ll get to experience the park without the crowds. There are special meet and greets for the villains, and Jack Skellington. The ‘Cadaver’ Dan’s are even roaming around serenading guests in the park. You can read more about what you can typically expect by following the link below.

But before that, there are a few new additions in 2018! The Mad Tea Party and Space Mountain have both been given a spooktacular new soundtrack for the event. The Mad Tea Party also has new lighting effects to enhance the experience. The best new feature, in my opinion, is a set of ‘amateur pirates’ who have invaded the Pirates of the Caribbean in hopes of finding ‘Gunpowder Pete’ and are inviting you to join in on the adventure.

As night falls you can experience the Boo to You parade with appearances from the Headless Horseman, characters from the Haunted Mansion, the Pirates from the Caribbean and more. Select restaurants are open during the party, including Be Our Guest and Cinderella’s Royal Table. And you cap the night off with a ‘Hallowishes’ dessert party, combining seasonal treats with a seasonal favorite nighttime spectacular. And don’t worry, it may be Halloween, but it’s not so scary.

The Return to Sleepy Hollow Dessert Show

A fall favorite in Walt Disney World is the appearance of the Headless Horseman in the Boo To You Parade. But what many people don’t know is that you can find the Horseman in Fort Wilderness as well. On select nights during the fall, you can visit the Tri-Circle-D ranch for a special ticketed event. During this event you can view Disney’s classic film The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, meet the Headless Horseman himself and even take home a commemorative pin. And you can also attend a dessert party before or after the event as well!

The Epcot International Food and Wine Festival

Epcot is the festival spot for Walt Disney World. Every year it hosts the International Festival of the Holidays, the International Flower and Garden Show, The International Festival of the Arts and the Food and Wine Festival.

Epcot is already known for its culinary offerings. With each pavilion in the World Showcase offering at least one sit down restaurant, and a quick service food stop, you have more food venues to choose from than attractions to visit! And when the international food and wine festival rolls around that number only grows. Festival events include Sunday Brunch with Celebrity chefs, the Eat the Beats concert series, junior chefs classes and, of course, food and wine from around the world. Bon Appetite!

Festive Fall Treats

Speaking of food, the rest of Walt Disney World has tasty new treats for you to enjoy through-out the season. You can get four new Haunted Mansion themed treats with printed chocolate paintings on top. The toppings feature paintings from the stretching room and the classic purple Mansion wallpaper. You can also purchase a new Jack Skellington push up treat and a Mickey cupcake filled with purple marshmallow cream. All treats are available throughout the season or at MNSSHP.

And yes, you can get the notoriously popular Pumpkin Spice Latte at any of the Starbucks locations in Walt Disney World.

So if you’re going to be in the area starting mid August 2018, be ready to welcome Fall at Walt Disney World. And if you want to read more about Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party you can read it here!
