The Fourth of July: Celebrate America’s Birthday

Back to the Homes4uu Blog

Its the fourth of July, which means it’s America’s Birthday. So here’s a breakdown of what many of us will be doing on this auspicious day.

Ways to Spend America’s Birthday

Today over 40 million Americans will have traveled more than 50 miles to celebrate the holiday with their friend and families. 35 million will have driven that far or farther. 69% of Americans will have attended a picnic, 12% will have gone to a parade, and 9% will be on vacation.

Hot Dogs Anyone?

During those hundred of picnics, ball games, and meals over 150 Million Hot Dogs will be eaten by the end of the day on July 4th. (This statistic includes the day or two before the date as well). 71% of those hot dogs yearly are topped with mustard. If you’re in Disney you should head over to Casey’s Corner to make one of your own! If you aren’t a fan of eating hot dogs on your own you can always tune into the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog eating contest held at Coney Island each year. Oh and 1/3 of those Dogs come from the State of Iowa

Fireworks on the Fourth

Fourth of July at Disney

To top the night off there will be over 14000 fireworks displays all across the US of A. The largest is in New York City where over 40,000 shells will be launched from 6 barges. In all, over 40% of Americans will attend a fireworks display. 26% of American will be putting on their own fireworks display! All together we will spend more nearly $250 million dollars to put on these brilliant and elaborate displays. Talk about putting the candle on America’s birthday cake!

Vacation Time…Orlando Anyone?

For those of you who like to spend the Fourth of July on vacation (again, that’s 9% of all Americans!) Then Orlando is a perfect place to go.

Walt Disney World has a two-day celebration in all the parks with one of the best fireworks displays being the Magic Kingdom’s special Independence Day spectacular called Celebrate America! – A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky! It is a truly immersive display of patriotic pyrotechnics with fireworks lanched over Main Street, Cinderella’s Castle, behind Fantasyland and a dozen other locations in the parks!

My favorite Disney fireworks are the special Fourth of July version of Illuminations that is on display in Epcot. Celebrate America is much bigger and fancier, but Illuminations is 12 extra minutes of patriotic music done spectacularly well.

There are extra performances in all the parks, as well as DJ dance parties in Frontier Land and Tomorrow Land. Patriotic attractions include the Hall of Presidents, the Liberty Belle riverboat, Tom Sawyer’s Island, the Carousel of Progress (Dad blows out the fuses on the Fourth of July) and the American Adventure in Epcot. To make the trip complete head to the Liberty Tree Tavern (Or the Colombia Harbor House) in Liberty Square.

If you want to know more about ways the rest of Orlando is celebrating then you should check out this site:

So whether you are in Walt Disney World celebrating the all the parks have to offer, or if you’re in your own backyard, we here at Homes4uu hope you all have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July!
