Disney’s New Handicap Policy

The Walt Disney Co.’s U.S. theme parks plan to stop offering unlimited front-of-the-line access to disabled park visitors, in a bid to prevent abuses by travelers who exploited the program by hiring disabled tour guides to pose as family members.

A Disney spokeswoman said Monday the company’s “Guest Assistance Card” program — in which disabled guests were issued cards entitling them to skip to the front of any attraction at Walt Disney World or Disneyland in Anaheim Calif. — will end Oct. 9.

my wife and i are planning to visit disney orlando soon,i think it is a shame the handicap policy had to change because people can not be honest.my wife has been handicaped for years and i recently have found to be able to not walk normally.i understand the reason for change but i think people that can get around normally should be thankful for that.for those who abuse the system all i can say .shame on them .I hope Disney can find a fair solution, but for us I am afraid it will be too late. Our first vacation in 11 years-We justed wanted to be there with our family to see our grandkids enjoyment

We agree George – The policy may be changing again. Stay tuned.

  2. HOW DOES THIS POLICY WORK FOR REAL GUESTS THAT ARE ACTUALLY HANDICAPPED? I AM A QUADRAPELEGIC AND UNABLE TO WALK OR TRANSFER TO SEATS. I HAVE NEVER GONE FOR ANY SPECIAL PASSES. I HAVE USED HANDICAP LINES IF THEY WERE AVAILABLE FOR MYSELF AND MY SMALL PARTY BUT NEVER IF I AM NOT DOING ATTRACTION OR RIDE -I JUST WAITED FOR THEM. MY HUSBAND AND I ARE THINKING OF COMING DOWN IN DECEMBER AND WANTED TO KNOW HOW THIS AFFECTS US

The new policy may be changing already? Stay tuned for more news soon.
